Tracey,

I have hurt my finger, so I can't type too well--will try to be brief.

So much going on here...Is this a $$ issue? Do you have incompetent and/or pissed off people working there b/c it doesn't pay enough? If so, Ithink Lisa's right and the co needs to go back and ask for more $. Yes, they might look stupid, but if things keep going as they are, the co's rep will be ruined.

I would say document EVERYTHING. You know the first rule of business: CYA! Your boss doesn't even have to know right now. Is it possible to regotiate the contract and get rid of the subcontractor? IF not right away, then keep record of what's going on and maybe in six months, if you have enough of a file, you can do that.

I am a teacher and I've worked for the Cdn govt, so I know about bureaucracy and territory. God, what a hassle! If GOVA is the only one who knows how it works, I guess you've got to go through them--dumb, but what else can you do? Or else, get someone to go over their heads (maybe up to the top of homeland security), tell that that this is a critical issue and the country is not safe...blah, blah, you know the routine: freak everyone out,lol...and then let them get these two groups working together. That would probably lead to bad feelings, but I'm not sure that matters. The last thing you could do is go to the media, but you'd probably get fired...butmaybe that's not a bad thing.

Ok, gotta go. Sending you hugs and good wishes--you are not a failure at all--you're GREAT!

~Nicola

Trac,

I'm going to give you two pigeon feathers.

<>

Now fly! Fly dammit! Why aren't you flying? You have FAILED to fly!

OK, that's how much sense it makes to believe you are a failure because you can't make this sinking ship work. You do not have the equipment, the vendor company support, or management's help on this. Why do you think that you should be the one person to make this company work?

You said that you were thinking of looking for another job. I think that might be a great idea for you. As you said, the software and hardware you have to work with are putting your under. But even beyond that, it sounds like the whole structure of the company and the subcontracting company is on self-destruct.

How can you expect yourself to save a company that doesn't want to be saved, especially when you don't have the power to make any strategic decisions?

What would do tell one of us who said that we were blaming ourselves for not being able to make an ineffective software and hardware system work? Just like you can't save a person who doesn't want to change their self-destructive lifestyle, you can't save a company committed to a self-destructive pattern business model.

It's not your fault, Trac! The company is not going to change. Now what can you do to make YOUR own life better?
