I used to take Paxil. It worked great for about 5 years. My mother has been taking for over 10 without problem. I wish you the best. Hugs, Brenda

I take Paxil and find it effective. Unlike Prozac and Zoloft, the other two antidepressants I've tried, Paxil made a discernable difference the very first day I took it, and has continued to work for me since (I've been on it for a few years).

However, I have to admit I had a killer headache for a week straight when I first started taking Paxil. The headache went away after the first week. It also makes me pretty thirsty all the time, and that never went away. Still, the improved mood is well worth it to me.

I started my Paxil today! I am so sleepy! Hope that stops soon... I also have IBS. I dont know if its too early to tell if the Paxil is messing with it or not but all day i've been having the burning pain in my stomach that i have with IBS. Wonder if the meds are making it worse?

I hate to be the only wet blanket on this thread, but I have a different experience of Paxil. I've been on it for four years. It has definitely helped my anxiety. It has helped my depression some, mostly taking the edge off of it.

However, Paxil is notorious for ending your sex drive. That's pretty close to what has happened for me. But the worst part is that it makes me crazy tired. I need 10 to 12 hours of sleep a day. It is definitely related to the Paxil. It is famous for having this side effect.

Paxil also has terrible withdrawal effects. There's a class action suit now from users of Paxil. If you are going to take it, you need to know what you are getting into. If you miss even one day, you will have side effects of extreme irritation and emotionalness. It feels awful. When I miss a day, I feel like I'm going insane, like the inside of my brain and my veins is being scratched.

I think it's important that you understand what you are getting into with this drug. Prozac does not have the extreme withdrawal effects of Paxil and Zoloft. It stays in the system MUCH longer. But it may not have the same kind of help with anxiety. It can actually make people more anxious sometimes.

That's my two cents.
