Do you guys/gals know of a support group for child hood survivors of a bipolar parent? I really need to vent and talk to others who understand or at least listen with out judging me. Do any of you know if it is common for one sick parent to knkow of abuse by the other parental figure and ignor it?

Hi Coffeecat37,

We have a Bipolar Disorder board that might be able to give you some direction in addition to what Caly has suggested:

(I just went over there and noticed that you have posted there.)

We also have a Families & Mental Illness board at:

Hello! I'm afraid I don't know of any support groups, but it looks like you have been given a direction or two to pursue. Just wanted to let you know that I am a bipolar sufferer and while I have a mild case and can't totally relate to your mother's situation, I applaud you for seeking help. One of the things I have to be very aware of is that I don't let my illness affect my children. Through therapy and medication I am able to cope with the mood swings and deal with everyday stresses of life. I can imagine how tough it could be, however, in situations in which the bipolar sufferer has a really hard time controlling the illness. Good for you for seeking help for yourself, and I do hope you will find ways to cope. Good luck to your mother too. Hugs!

Hi Gals,

Thanks for the help and support. Mom died in October of last year. iv tngirl DO NOT FEEL BAD, you didn't know. With the one year aniversary caming up I am trying to get through some stuff. It's time. I feel so guilty, part of me is releived that I don't have to deal with it anymore, part of me is glad she isn't suffering and part of me misses the part of my mother who loved me. It was like she could only keep a tiny piece of who and what she wanted to be. But God, what a magnificent person that was.

Awwwwwwww (((((((((((((coffeecat37)))))))))

I'm so sorry...I'm glad you got to experience the magnificent side of your mother though. Sounds like she really loved you. And, you have been an inspiration to me, affirming what I already know, that I have to be strong for my children. (((big hugs)))
