Celexa vs Lexapro?

Does anyone have an opinion about taking Celexa vs Lexapro? I was on Zoloft (50mg) about a year ago and it helped me get through situational depression, but I had headaches, night sweats and zonked out every afternoon. My sister is taking Celexa and her psych. told her Lexapro is too strong for her, but my primary care doc recommended Lexapro. I don't think I need anything strong, just something to get me through a tough time here. Opinions, please? Thanks.

I have been on Lexapro for about 3 months now. It has been a wonderful medicine in helping alieve my depression. I was so very depressed - that my cognitive capablities were imparied. I could not work. My anxiety was running my life.

I am back to work full time. My anxiety is under control & I can focus and hold a thought. 'thanks to Lexapro'. I have suffered with depression since the early 90's. I had been on several medicines over the years. (most have been helpful) I have done a lot of cognitive behavior work. Managed to gain control over my symptoms... and I was medicine free for nearly 7 years. (I may have suffered a lot without even, realizing it.) I would stay in bed not communicate with people etc etc, and feel this was typical. I am greatful, that these new medicines are now available. (few side affects)

I have not had any side affects from Lexapro. I do not find it to be strong in anyway. I am on a low dose.

At my last visit, I told my doctor I was always waking up in the night and not feeling tired, but can fall asleep when I turn off the lights & shut my eyes. (no intrusion thoughts.) Doctor suggested I increase my dose, as to help with my sleeping difficulty. (I think I discovered my sleeping difficulity is not my anxiety... it is that my DH took up snoring again.) I just have to adjust my sleep pattern. ((I do not mind sleeping in the next room... if it means I will sleep through the night.)) It is my health!! (sorry - I am got off the subject) Lexapro works for me. I do not know much about Celexa so I can not give a comparison. (I did have a bad experience with Paxil, .. it was too strong for me.)

I do wish you the very best in finding what works best for you. ~gg
