Post Partum Depression & Effexor XR

Hi. This is the first time I have done one of these but I figure it's worth a try if there is a chance it will help me to understand why I feel so bad right now. I had a baby 6 weeks ago. You'd think this would be a happy time for me but it's the opposite. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I cry all the time, get upset with me husband and 3 year old son, I have no energy and all I want to do is sleep. I used to be happy and loved to hang out with people. Now I don't want to be around anyone. I went in for my 6 week post partum check-up and my doctor put me on Effexor XR because she thinks I have post partum depression. The only thing is I started feeling like this about 3 months before I had my son, so I don't understand how it could be post partum depression. But she is the doctor and is most likely correct. I've been on the Effexor XR for 5 days now. Hopefully, this works and I get back to feeling like myself. Does anyone have any suggestions or info on either post partum depression or Effexor XR? I need all the help/info I can get. Thanks.

Dear Monica, I'm so glad you are taking the feelings seriously and that you realize it's NOT because you are unhappy with your new baby and family. I had post partum after my only child was born 18 years ago. I did not know what it was. But, we made it through, he is happy and well adjusted and I'm much better, too. I DID NOT take any medications of any kind, however. I have had bouts of depression and aniexity over the years and even have been suicidal. The real way to deal with this chemical inbalance is not with more chemicals. I've successfully dealt with mine through diet, nutrition and supplements. I function very well now, am healthy, slim and my husband and I are celebrating our 24th anniversary today! A woman I know dealt with it just the opposite: she went on prescriptions and eats mostly junk food and she has developed severe depression and is overweight and very unhealthy!(We're both 46!) Please check at the web site mercola.com and the Weston Price web site. The Maker's Diet book would also offer immense help. Because I am living proof that diet and nutrition works, I can offer this advice. Please take a look right away at Dr. Mercola's web site and search under the subject of depression. It will give you an extensive list of articles with diet and supplement facts that address the real cause of your depression. If you are breastfeeding, taking that drug really scares me as your baby will be taking it, too. Best wishes to you!!
