Prozac ?

Hello! After struggling with a horrible bout of depression, my therapist finally suggested medication. I hated to do it but I'm so glad I did. I've been on Prozac for about 6 months and am back to my happy self, for the most part. My downs now aren't nearly as severe or as long-lasting as before. However, my libido has decreased so much! Has anyone else had this problem? (Also, what about weight gain? I've put on about 7 pounds since I've started, despite no changes in exercise and eating) Any tips or other experiences would be great.

Hi dr2th,

Since your question concerns Prozac, you might want to also post on our Anti-Depressant Med board at:

Our Prozac information is at:

As someone also on Prozac, I can relate to the weight gain.

Hi my dh has taken Prozac in the past and we are getting ready to ask his DR. to put him back on it since it tends to give most people more energy and motivation. He never gained weight on it but then he has kind of a fast metabolism. It can make people more anxious the first few weeks but then seems to not as much. As to the libido I am afraid in our joint experience all the SSRI's we've been on between us seem to have that affect. I have taken Lexapro, Zoloft, Celexa and between us we have been on many others. I am on a middle dose of Effexor XR and it doesn't seem to be causing a big problem for me now. Perhaps you can talk to your Doctor about adjusting your dosage? I don't know if I've been any help but I wanted you to know I read your post. Mo
