Beta Blockers

Hi. I was wondering if anyone here is taking beta blockers to help with some of the physiological symptoms of social anxiety (e.g. blushing, sweating, shaking). I had never heard that there was a kind of treatment for these sorts of things until my counselor suggested them to me. Does anybody know about this? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance!

((Ashley)) Welcome to the board! I am not familiar with that particular use of Beta blocker. I know it is a blood pressure medication. It slows the heart rate and lowers blood pressure. My original back ground is in Cardiac Rehabilitation. So I am quite familiar with it's use.

If this is under the guidance of a doctor, then you should be fine. For many people it has been a very helpful med for blood pressure. They are quite safe and have been on the market for a very long time.

Keep us posted on this, I am interested to find out more.

Sending hugs and good thoughts your way.

Hi ashley,

I just went on a beta blocker about a week ago. It has given me wonderful results!!! I am feeling so much better. My anxiety is 99 percent gone, my pulse and blood pressure are way down. It has been a miracle for me!!!! I was a wreck a week ago.

I am also on Paxil. It seems to be working good now.

Hope you have good luck with your beta blockers, the first little while it makes you feel tired, but that wears off they say, that is already better. I take it before I go to bed, if I take it in the morning, it really makes me tired. I don't know how it works for everyone else.

Good luck!!!

Thanks again for your kind input!
