Hello. I am depressed due to severe stress. Since I don't have a chemical imbalance, does anyone know if I would benefit from medication? I need something. Thanks

Have you seen a therapist yet? Even when depression is due to a "chemical imbalance", therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy in particular, is very helpful. I'm on medication, but therapy has been key to my recovery.

How do you know that the depression you are experiencing if from stress?

Did you see you doctor & tell you this or are you self-diagnosing?

I saw a doctor during adolescence who sort of shrugged it off and said it was just my age, and I never started medication. I was okay for awhile, but lately it has been difficult and I am wondering if it is worth my time to even see another doctor because I am under extreme stress so I don't know if medication would help me.

hey, this is your life - it's worth at least looking into it (meds) - and as I mentioned before, if you really are under a lot of stress, even though it might be hard to find the time, having a therapist to work out some of the issues could be very helpful.

I agree with the last poster.

Stop & take the time to see your doctor and find out what is going on. If your regular MD can't help you, hopefully he can recommend someone to you.

I am on Prozac & therapy. Without the therapy, I couldn't do it myself.

Life is too short!!!!!! We are here to enjoy life, not dread it.
