Hi Christine!
The first thing is don't be scared! Bipolar Disease, like Depression, is a treatable disease.
I have a chronic/recurrent depression for the past few years, and during my "good" times, i would be bubbly, talkative, fidgety, basically what I thought (and so did my pdoc) was my ADHD coming out. And for some reason, this summer (while my pdoc was on a two week vacation of course!) I had a period of agitation, feeling like I was on speed at times, no euphoria, but definite dyphoria, and then two days before my appointment with him, I crashed into another depression. So, we too have been talking about the possiblitiy that I may have Bipolar also, but Type II rather than Type I because I've never had a full-blown episode of mania.

i hope you are doing ok.
I went to the Dr. last night and she didn't rule it out or confirm it just yet.

I'm SOOO going to email you tomorrow, there are things I can't talk about here...but in the meantime, yes, I took Klonopin and Xanax both and I like Klonopin MUCH better because it DOES last longer. Right now, I'm on Ativan...but its a lot like Klonopin, just doesn't last quite as long, but lasts a LOT longer than Xanax does. You'll like Klonopin.
Talk to you tomorrow!

Hey Christine - I agree with Keli, I'm on Klonopin because my antidepressants make me anxious (LOL). I like it because it doesn't make me high, just makes me able to function. I was really worried about being on a physically addictive medication in the beginning and I was once on Xanax for an agitated depression many years ago, and liked it a little too much! The Klonopin has allowed me to live my life without constant agitation and anxiety. i do still occasionally get anxiety attacks (and last night I had a full-blown panic attack, which is really rare), but I'm able to deal with them better now.
Good luck! I still am not sure whether I'm Bipolar II or not, all I care about is that we find a combination of medications that work. I'm still depressed, but I'm more optimistic because I'm on something completely different now.

I also have Bipolar II disorder. I have mild manic episodes but mostly depressive episodes. I was diagnosed in March of this year after a pretty big manic episode and then a subsequent crash. I have not had that kind of mania since. After talking with my therapist who suggested the diagnosis, I began reviewing my behaviors over the last several years, and I am pretty much a textbook case. It is scary at first, but really I was glad to know what was wrong so that I could get the treatment I needed to feel better. I am on 200 mgs. of Lamictal and was on Lexapro but weaned off of that a few months ago. Being in tune to your moods and behaviors and what triggers your episodes is really important. Sounds like your therapist is doing a wonderful job of helping you figure out exactly what's going on. Don't let whatever "label" you have discourage or scare you...you are still you, you're just taking positive steps toward feeling better and having a rich, fulfilling life. Good luck to you!
