If zoloft is marketed to help treat obesity, then why do some people gain weight when they take it? Same with prozac, if it was originally prescribed as a weight loss drug before it was known to treat depression, then why do so many people gain weight on it? Is there one ssri that's better as far as weight gain not being a problem? Are these two better than others as far as that particular side effect goes? Thanks for any input!

I lost 50 pounds when I first went on Zoloft. Not sure if the Zoloft helped me lose the weight or if I was so depressed I couldn't and didn't want to eat. I was also walking more to help deal with the anxiety and the depression. Now that I am not dealing with the feelings of despair that go along with depression, I have to watch what I eat and need to continue to exercise if I don't want to regain the weight.
