I'm fairly new here although perhaps a year or two ago I did post to this board. I'm 43. My name is Cathy. I have been diagnosed as dysthymic (mild chronic depression). I have been getting treatment for it for 3 to 4 years with my therapist who I was very pleased with. She got to know me well and we were making great progress together.
I got the sad news this past week that my therapist died. It was a sudden thing and I am in shock and can't quite believe that I won't be going to therapy next Tuesday night. Has anyone on this board had an experience of a therapist dying?? If so, how did you feel? Did you search for a new therapist right away?
I have had one session with another therapist who actually was the one who informed me about the death of my therapist. She has said she is available for me for a couple more sessions if I have trouble dealing with the death. Unfortunately she is out of town for the next 10 days or so. Sigh.
