Starting to take Zoloft, any adivce/info

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board, and I've been diagnosed with SAD. I'm 24, but I've felt this way, every fall since high school. I've always been afraid to say anything to my parents but have finally begun seeing a therapist for almost a year now. He diagnosed me and I spoke to my Dr. about it.

I'm starting 50 mg of Zoloft tonight, as he told me to take it in the evenings. Does anyone have advice, or tips, or anything they can share? I'm a little nervous about all the side effects that go with many andi-depressants especially weight gain and drowsiness.
Thank you!!

Hi and welcome to the board!
I too have SAD along with dsythymia and so I understand how you are feeling this time of year.
*hugs
I took Zoloft about 5 yrs. ago. I was doing great on it till my dr. felt it necessary to increase it from 50 to 100mg. A few weeks into it I started with diariah (sp). Everytime I ate it seemed to go right from one end to the other and out. I stopped taking it and tried to go it on my own.
Three years ago I had 3 tramatic changes in my life, all within 5 mos. The death of my husband first, 3mos. later my mom, and 1 mo. after that, I was forced into retirement. At that time my dr. put me on paxil and I've done great untill now and I'm back with the diariah (sp again). Other than that problem I had no other side effects. I'm seeing my dr. later this afternoon, after I have a colonoscopy this morning, (a fun day for me). I took my meds in the morning as it was easier and was afraid I'd forget in the evening. Hopefully I can go on something that won't bother me this way. I definitely felt much better when I was on an anti-depressant. Good Luck.
