side effects of anti-depressants

I just started on Effexor XR on monday. The first day my side effects were terrible and are gradually getting better. Has anyone experienced this? How long dose it take to have no side-effects. Also i feel not quite myself, it's hard to explain, but like I'm not completely "Grounded" could this be the medication? Any adivce info woudl make me feel better about starting this drug that I had a hard time deciding to go on in the first place.
Thnaks,
Jen

Jen,
According to the drug company it can take 6-8 weeks to for you to feel the full effects of Effexor. As for the side effects, it is very likely that Effexor is causing that, but don't stop taking them without talking to your doctor! The side effects will get better every day and you should be feeling more "with it" after about a 4 days to a week. That has been my experience. It takes time for your body to get used to it.
Good luck!

Hang in there...it will get better! I've been on Effexor XR for just over a year now. For about a week when I first started taking it, I had a little trouble getting used to it. The same feeling you describe as not being "grounded" was exactly what happened to me to. I also felt sort of fuzzy every once in a while. For example, I might turn my head to look at something and it was as if my eyes/brain took a few seconds to catch up. Very strange! But I can tell you that for me at least, all of the side effects were gone within the first two weeks.
Now the only time I ever have negative effects from the meds is if I forget to take it for a day (and those go away once you get the meds back in your system).
Good luck! Hang in there!
