Hi Traci! Yes, it definitely sounds like you are having a bipolar mixed state. I've been there, MANY MANY times, right where you are now. I take Ativan, for my anxiety attacks...I take it 2x a day...I can't NOT take it...my racing thoughts are not negative right now, becuase I am finally on a good anti depressant, Cymbalta. It does tend to make me manic, but I take Topamax to stabilize that somewhat. When I had REALLY bad mixed states, I took an antipsychotic medication and that stopped the negative racing thoughts in their tracks. However, I had to take some time off work and go into the hospital for a while too. Don't let that scare you. Not everyone has to do that. I just wasn't safe, and needed to be in the hospital. It was a very positive experience for me and helped me tremendously. A mixed state, LEFT UNTREATED, can cause other things to start happening...and that's what worries me here...if you start to hallucinate, whether visually, or hear things, or FEEL things differently, call your pdoc. I'm really not trying to scare you, but I want you to be aware of different things that happened to me during my really bad mixed state before I got treatment. If you want to talk on IM, I have AOL IM, i'm kelisthabomb. And you can email me at kelisthabomb1@aol.com. Please don't get scared by anything I've said. I just want you to be safe. When a person's mind is racing with negative thoughts and won't stop for anything, other things tend to start happening...the nightmares, not being able to recall words...i got very incoherent...I hope you're feeling better by now. I want to help you as much as I can...I'll check back later to see if you've posted an update. IM me, email me, or post here or at the bipolar board. And remember, Bipolar can be treated with the right meds. I couldn't take Lamictal either because of the neck rash. But there are TONS of good BP meds out there and you're going to be fine, whether or not you're Bipolar. You're okay! I promise.

Hugs,

Keli
