Effexor XR - Weight gain or loss?
| Wed, 12-01-2004 - 10:49pm |
Hi all -
I've been on Effexor XR for just over a year now. I have found it helpful for my depression but have also found an extra 20 pounds on the scale since this time last year. :( I'm at a point where I am considering stopping the Effexor (with my doctor's guidance of course).
What I'm wonder is if anyone who experienced a weight gain with meds, actually lost the weight once they stopped the meds.
I realize that the weight gain can not be entirely blamed on the meds and that stopping the meds will be a magic answer for losing the weight. It is going to take work on my part.
Just curious if anyone lost weight after stopping their meds.
Thanks very much!!

Kat,
I just stared Effexor XR almost 2 weeks ago. if I remember correctly my doc said that it is one that gives you energy and shouldn't cause weight gain. I weighed myself the other day and at an all time low for me. Wether that is the meds or decressed appetite from the depression I am not sure, but we will find out. Good lUck!

I also lost weight when I was on Effexor, but only because I gained a lot when I was taking other meds. I would ask your doctor though, it might just be how the Effexor works with your body. Not all meds effect the body the same way, so maybe another med would work better for you. Also, if you have found yourself overeating a lot or working out less, think about why that might be. If it seems be triggered by feeling blue, that might be another clue that the medicine isn't working best for you. Everyone is different, what is right for one person might easily be wrong for another. Best of luck, let us know how it goes!!
