does anyone have any experience with trying to get off meds and live without them after you've lived with them? I was on AD's for 2 years, and my life has improved some, so now I'm trying to live without meds. My pdoc is supervising my going off (completely off now). It's a little scary. I'm on the watch for signs of the anxiety or depression coming back but the difference with meds and without is so subtle, I can't tell the difference yet. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this.

I was on Effexor for almost a year. I've been off of them for about 10 months. However, I'm about to go back on them because I had a episode where I dated this guy totally fell in love. He decided to end the relationship and I crashed!!!! I have to go back in order to feel good and possible not harm myself.

Thanks for listening. I hope it works for you. I think if I would have kept a steady head while dating this guy and not getting all wrapped up in him, I would have handled the break up better. Right now I can't capture my thoughts so I have to take something to help.

I weaned off meds a couple of years ago under my psychiatrist's guidance, because i didn't want to continue taking them if I didn't need them, and the side effects were a drag (weight gain, sexual side effects, etc). Iwas off them for about 10 months, then needed to restart them, but I was glad I at least gave it a try. i have a feeling that I will be one of those people who need to be on meds chronically, but I know plenty of people who don't. Good luck!

HI, I have never tried going off the effexor I have been on for 2 years this coming january, but I plan to start decreasing the strength I take on some days the very end of december, I just feel I owe it to myself to try it, as how will I know if I will always need a med if I don't try it.

There is an ivillage board, Antidepressant Medications, and they might better able answer your question, not that we aren't loving and supportive here, as we are, but I glance at that board sometimes, and they really go into details about what you asked.

I hope we both find the right answer for our futures, hugs, JOsie.
