Hi again, just wanted to agree with Nicola...I think going the neurology route could be a good idea. Also, I know you mentioned Elavil, Nicola...I tried that for a while, and it also knocked me out completely! I'd kind of given up on that class of meds, but then my doctor suggested Pamelor, which is very similar to Elavil but without the effects on sleep...it helped a lot and didn't make me sleepy, and I still take it every day. I'd guess you probably can't take that med either if you're nursing...just wanted to add my experience.
I also think the study of pain is fascinating...although deciding on a specialty is a long way off for me, I've always had a feeling I'll go into neuro...anything having to do with the brain holds my attention!
That's interesting to hear that you've had a good experience with biofeedback...I was considering that as well when my pain was still really severe. And even now I'm wondering about maybe trying it for my weekly migraines...I guess I may do a tiny bit of it on my own, kind of subconsciously, since I can sometimes tell when a migraine is starting and try to relax...I think it does help some, and I'd imagine that formal biofeedback would be even more useful.
Sorry to kind of go off on a tangent...Lisa, I also really hope that you find something that helps. As Nicola said, even if the cause remains kind of unclear, there are still ways to deal with the pain...I think I remember hearing about the med Neurontin as well as a pretty common treatment for chronic pain.
Lisa: sending you prayers and positive thoughts. Can you sit out a couple years, get better, then get ready for the next olympics? Hoping you can at least. Love, Josie.
