BuSpar Question

I have a question about BuSpar. Everything I have read makes it sound more like an anti-anxiety drug than an anti-depressant. I am really concerned about my Mom. Shes been 'depressed' for about 20 years! That sounds funny but it really isn't. Long story short, my father walked out on us in '85 and she hasn't been the same since. She became an alcoholic for about 14 of those years and finally got sober. Of course I was under the impression (because I was young) that once she was sober her whole life would change for the better. Sadly she just saw the state of her life through sober eyes. I was falling down her pit of despair so I left to save myself as soon as I graduated high school. I felt bad because I am all she has. Anyway, I have been telling her to get help for depression for a long time - that finding a new man wont ever fix her problem until she fixes herself, that a visit from me will cheer her up but only temporarily, etc etc. She finally told me that she is on BuSpar. Does that really help depression?

Hi there,

I can tell you that the Buspar didn't help me at all.
I am now taking paxil and it helps much better. I felt
irritated and down while taking Buspar.

I hope your Mother gets help and enjoys her life.
