Hi everyone, I have been lurking here, trying to figure out how to help my DH who I believe is sufferring from depression. We had a long talk last night and he has agreed to treatment, but does not want to be put on medication. Any ideas of how I could find a reputable therapist? DH read a book on cognitive-behavior therapy and felt like it was the way to go (recommended by a friend), and there's someone in town who does this, but it seems so random to go about finding a therapist like this.
What do you all think is the best way for him to begin treatment?
Kim
PS He has been on St John's Wort for around 4 months and it seemed to be working well, but he has been exercising less (very cold weather) and work is getting more stressful so it doesn't seem to be working as well.

Hi,
Finding a good cognitive therapist is not easy. I have asked my doctor, friends I have who work in therapeutic roles and even picked one out of the phone book. I don't know if you have any friends who have been in therapy who can recommend someone. One of the key questions can be whether you think your husband would do better with a man or woman, or with a particular style. YOu may also have to try several before you find a good match.
It is very hard to deal with a depressed person so good luck. I will be posting my question about my husband also.
