What am I going to do?

I need help. I know I probably need a therapist but for right now, I need help.

I just broke up with my bf of 4 years - he was a cheater, a liar and as much as he said he loved me, our relationship was just not a healthy one. He'd make all sorts of promises and as soon as I took him back, would revert to the man he really was. Anyway, I figured it out...just took me a while is all.

Problem #2 - this bf and I were rebuidling my 95 yo house for the last 2 years. Unfortunately, it isn't done. I had to weigh keeping him in my life vs. finishing the house...I just thought it would be cruel to keep him in my life just to finish the house, and he was making me so miserable, so I let him go. Now, I'm finding that his rebuilding wasn't exactly legal. The addition that was put on this summer was never signed off by the town...I didn't even realize it was supposed to be. I can't even hire someone to finish it because I would need a new permit and because things aren't copastetic, I could be in real trouble by the town!

I can do a lot of the work myself - I learned a lot in the last 2 years, but I just learned that I can't have my gas line (cooking) installed because the last person who installed it (him) did it illegally and the town will need to come out and inspect before I can do anything - something I just cannot face right now.

I feel aweful! I'm depressed and can't figure out how to get out of this mess! Money is tight so that's another concern. Just trying to keep a smiling face for the sake of the children at Christmas - but it's killing me!

Thanks for listening.

Sounds like you are going through a lot right now! I would guess that nothing is going to get done in the next two weeks because of the holidays, so try to give yourself a break until after they are over. Then tackle the issues. It sounds like you may need a lawyer to help you sort out the mess with the town. If you can't afford one, is there a legal aid office in your town? And you are right. A therapist probably would
