First ever therapy appt tomorrow

I have my first ever therapy appointment tomorrow. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I keep going back and forth. My parents said that they thought it would be a good idea, though, and that I have to go to at least this initial appointment.

I was scared when I went to my first appt. too and it was a mess. I cried my eyes out and talked about all the things that were hurting me, but the dr. just listened and I really liked the feeling that I could talk to somebody who wouldn't judge me or have an opinion on every emotion I have. When I left I felt great, you will too! I hope you have as good of an expirience as I did and that you decide to continue with therapy if needed.

I ditto that. And remember, it often takes some time to build up trust with anyone, including a therapist, so don't necessarily give up on the idea if the first session didn't go so well. Give it a chance. And just be honest.

I'm sorry that you cried at your first therapy appointment, but I'm glad that it has helped you in the long run. Do you still go to therapy?

Thanks for the advice - I'll try not to give up if I have a bad first session. I am keeping in mind, though, that I can always switch therapists if this one doesn't turn out to be the one for me.

If it were totally my choice, I probably wouldn't go, but my parents and doctor really want me to go. I think that I'm doing all right on Prozac alone, but I guess that they don't think so. I'm pretty sure that the therapist is male. I haven't met him/her yet, but I'll let you know how it goes. I'm so sorry that you've been sick - I hope that you feel better soon!

I think I will start going to my therapist again. I went twice and I really liked him, but the holidays started getting in the way. I will call tmw and make another appt. We can do this together! It's so weird talking to someone on such an intimate level...don't you think? But it is nice to know that you can talk to someone without being judged or "burdening" someone with your thoughts/feelings. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm glad that I could help you out! I like what you said about it being difficult to talk with someone that you don't know on such an intimate level, but at the same time, it's nice because they aren't judgmental and it's not burdensome for them. That makes a lot of sense to me, and it helps me feel better about my appointment today.

I'm a student, too, but I don't feel comfortable going to therapy at my college because it's really religious. So I'm going to an outside therapist. I think that my parents' insurance is going to cover at least part of it, though.
