When, When, will this medicine start wor

Hi, I am new here and hope someone can help. I started taking Wellbutrin XL two weeks and two days ago. I honestly feel much worse than I did before. I will feel fine one minute, but give me an hour and I am crying my eyes out. The mood swings are making me crazy. Also, it has given me stomach aches, but that does seem to be getting better. I called the doctor yesterday and his nurse said he thought I just had not taken it long enough. Have any of you taken this medication and did you get worse before you got better? I am considering stopping today,(Dr. said I could just quit) but I really want to be a calm and happy mom again. I just feel miserable and don't know what to do. Thanks for reading this and I really appreciate any opinions.

It's tough to know if the med is working yet because everyone will have a different experience. For me, meds start working at around 2 weeks give or take. Give yourself a little more time. If you trust your doctor then do what he says. If after another week you still don't feel any better then call again. Keep on top of it and you will feel better. Maybe you need more or another drug. Is this the first med you've tried? There are so many out there so don't give up.

I am taking wellbutrin xl, I started taking it after taking the SR formula, so didn't experience any of the side effects.
Hi there just wanted to welcome you to the board.
*hugs
Thank you everyone. I did decide to keep taking the Wellbutrin. I started my period today so maybe that is why it seemed to get worse and not better. Maybe since I was already depressed my PMS was just really bad. I know I haven't been eating right b/c of the holidays. My PMS seems to be really affected when I am not eating well. A friend called me and it was really therapeutic b/c we both seem to hate our husbands right now. LOL. We decided to blow everything off and go to the mall and out to eat lunch today. We left at 11:30 and didn't come home until 6:00pm. That time away from my family did me so much good. Wow, how sad does that sound.?
One of you asked if I have ever taken anything else. I had post partum pretty bad after my daughter was born 9 years ago. I took Zoloft and at almost exactly two weeks everything seemed to be so great. The sky was blue, the trees were green again. I have taken Zoloft off and on but I have been off of any meds for 3 years. I didn't want to take Zoloft b/c as strange as this may seem, it made me wet my pants a little until my body got used to it. I was also concerned about the sexual side affects.
I just hope I can stick it out. I hope that it was my PMS that caused me to feel so rotten. If it was then that was the most wretched PMS I have ever had. I really was having WILD mood swings. Most meds that I have heard of say they will work in about two weeks. My Dr. said the Wellbutrin would work anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks. 6 weeks just seems so far away. Oh, I am taking 150 mg. He gave me a months supply of samples. Thanks again!!
Hello,
I take medication also. I think that a lot of people who take medication have the belief that it is instantly going to make them "happy". The majority of anti-depressants take at least 3-4 weeks to work, sometimes more. And sometimes the dosage has to be upped but that usually has to be done slowly. I think the purpose of these medicines is to lift the "fog" that people who are depressed usually have and allow them to think clearly and find answers to their problems or improve their ability to deal with the depression. Hang in there. And remember there are many different medicines. You and your doctor should work together to find the one that is right for you. My thoughts are with you for a better new year. And remember above all....you are not alone.
