hi! I've made a pretty good '05 resolution. I am going to take the leap in to therapy! I am 25 single and social. In the eyes of my friends and family, there couldnt be anything wrong w/ me. Little do they know, i have a really REALLY hard time opening up to people. With relationships w/ men, its even worse. At the first sign of stress or even commitment, i run for the hills! I feel that talking w/ a professional is what i need to do to fix my commitment issues and just odd view of life i have. If i even tried to talk about this w/ a friend or even sibling, they would probably think i'm joking. Anyhow, to the point. How do i find a good therapist with out having to ask around and people asking why i need one? I'm in the north shore area of Chicago, IL. If anyone has any tips, i'd truly appreciate it! Thanks in advance, B

Hi, Brook, welcome to the board! It's great that you're taking such a proactive step in changing your situation. I can definitely relate to the trouble opening up to people...I'm 24 and have that problem too.

As for finding a therapist, I think others on this board might have more insight...I've found mine mostly through my university and current school, so I'm not sure how to go about looking for one otherwise. Sometimes I think doctors might have a list of therapists they refer to...hopefully someone else can help on this one.

One thing that I think can be important when you're looking for a therapist is to realize that you may have to "try out" more than one before you find a "good fit" for you... they're all different and have different methods for helping you. I do hope you find one you feel comfortable with...that's important too, that you feel like you can trust the therapist.

Again, welcome to the board...keep posting if you like...it's a great place for support,

Rose
