I'm the Teacher (I keep repeating that!)

Well, I guess the weather is to blame for a lot of it---but most of my classes today were awful. Even one of my 5th grades---usually a great class. When their teacher picked them up, she laughed and said, they've been terrible all day. Actually, that did make me feel a bit better---I just felt like everything was out of my control today.
gave 3 detentions which means I have to be at school extra early tomorrow. Really not a good system---the teacher who gives the detention gets punished too!

My mood is just awful. I fell like I'm totally coming undone. I brought home a ton of work and haven't begun any of it. I have to leave for choir in an hour ---so I probably won't get much done.

I smell something burning---better go check on dinner.

Hope eeryone else had a better day than I did.

Debbie: sending you hugs, actually I had lots of anxiety early tuesday morning, managed to get to a "communion service" at 12:15, and just sitting in church, we sang a few hymns, had some readings, my mood did brighten some and the flip flops, butterflies in my gut did settle down some.

I am NOT a child person, never had any of my own, was the youngest child, so like NO way would I have the patience to be a teacher, so my hat goes off to you! I would probably be like the traditional old nun stories, with the wicked ruler in my hand as I punished them all, which in this day and age would end me up in jail.

I hope things get better, but if they don't, remember YOU come first, and if you need to take a leave, do it, the kids will survive, so take care of YOU first as you are irreplaceable to me and the rest of us on the board. love, Josie.

(((Debbie)))

My heart totally goes out to you. I've been lurking for a while. I'm a teacher too, but I have a classroom. Being a music teacher is a whole different situation. You have a very tough job. I really respect what you do and the talents you have.

I also work in Illinois. The weather is not an excuse for bad behavior. And the classroom teacher should be giving you some support and back-up instead of laughing it off. I'm sorry just my opinion.

I wish I had some words of advice, but your world is so different than my classroom. I'm not sure my discipline ideas would work in a music classroom. If you want to bounce some ideas around, e-mail me through my profile and we can talk more.

All of that being said, I agree that you must take care of YOU first. If school is an unhealthy environment, take a sick leave and work on you. Or you could take the rest of the year. They would hire a permanent sub. She/He would plan after the first little bit. You wouldn't have to worry ( i know, yeah right, but you could let go some). Taking care of you and your needs, needs to come first so you can come back and do the job you love so much the way you want to do it.

This of course is just my thoughts. Hope you feel better soon. Sending you ((((hugs))))
