Can't seem to get motivated......

Hi everyone. I'm feeling a bit depressed lately. Can't seem to get ahead in my life. On Monday I was supposed to go to my orientation at McDonalds's. I got hired last Friday. Well McDonalds called on Monday before my scheduled orientation because they weren't sure if they told me about the orientation. Well, they did and I told them that I didn't know about it. So now I have a second chance at an orientation. I don't really want to work at McDonald's, but hey it's a job and it would give me some extra money. But I think they knew I was lying but they still invited me to come to the orientation on Monday. The fact of the matter is that I'm over weight and I'm afraid my co-workers would make fun of me. I'm also slow at learning new things and I'm afraid that they won't have the patience that I desperatly need. Does anyone have any advice for me? I would really appeciate it. Hope some people respond to this.

(((Susan))) Welcome to the board!! You must be more motivated than you think. If you want money bad enough to work at McDonalds. I am very impressed with that. Pat yourself on the back for that.

I was so happy to see you posting to others!! That's the way this place works.

Pat yourself on the back for that.

Feeling encouraged and a tiny bit more motivated, yet?

You are doing a lot right to try and work this job.

You just need to ask the folks training you to go over things lots and lots. Tell them that you know your learning style and that you need to go over things several times. Encourage them by saying that once you get the procedure you get it for good.

Did any of that help?

I hope so. I am not feeling very useful as of late.

Sending hugs and good thoughts your way.
Take care,
Lisa-)

I have known alot of people who have worked in fast food. My sister is a manager at Taco Bell and trust me they are very nice to you. Most people are there for money they don't really care how you look and they give you time to learn. my advice is ask when you need help that is the only way you will learn. trust me they would rather have you ask then have you not know.

go for it girl! you've got a chance for a reason- make it work for you. anyone who is new at a job has no clue what is going on at first- just think how after going through it for a little while it'll be so easy and like second nature. anyone who gives you a hard time about your looks is shallow and has issues of their own- don't let them get to you, feel sorry for them. everyone i have ever known who likes me better if i am skinnier is not worth my time. good for you getting the job and looking for support to make it work. can't wait to hear how it goes.

Hi everyone who responded to my post. I really appreciate the replies, but I'm sorry to say that I just couldn't go through with the job. I probably should have read all your replies to help me feel a little bit more motivated. I'm sorry to disspoint all of you. I am still applying for other jobs though.

In my area, they are going to be delivering Verizon phone books and I'm going to do that with a couple of other people. I like working with my friends. I also applied to hand out samples at local grocery stores in the area on friday, saturdays and sundays. So I'm trying. Wish me luck.

Again, I'm sorry I didn't read all of your posts before I decided not to work at McDonalds.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Hi Susan,
I'm a big believer in everything happens for a reason. Delivering phone books would be great - you'll get to be outdoors, getting some exercise and you're already comfortable with your co-workers. Not that Mc Donalds isn't a good job, but I know me - I am also overweight and I would be tempted to nibble at the fries! And food sampler - everybody loves those free samples, unlike Mc Donalds, you get crabby complaints if their food is not just right. Perhaps once you get out and moving around, you'll begin to feel better about yourself - that always works for me.

Congratulations on the new job(s)!
