Can Anyone Please Tell Me

Hi. I haven't been on here in almost 1yr but... can anyone please tell me why no one believes I'm depressed? My husband calls me a "drama queen", my parents & brothers won't talk to me, my grandmother tells me, "I hope you get your sense back". I'm not having much luck finding help, went to 1 counselor recently, she told me to get financial help 1st, then she'd see me. I applied for a "medical card" but was told I have to have a certain amt. of bills to qualify in a certain amt of time, so didn't get medical card & counselor wouldn't see me (even though she was free?). I don't go out of house for weeks at a time, not even to mailbox. I stay in my bedroom all of the time. One time came out to living room & didn't even recognize my own knick-knacks. Can someone please talk to me? I would greatly appreciate it. Things are getting very scary. Thank you. Patti

Welcome back (((((((((((((Patty))))))))))

I don't know where you live, somehow I am thinking it isn't in the US, so am not sure how to help you figure out what to do.

I think sometimes people don't want to accept the reality of a mental illness because it frightens them. There's a lot of stigma carried by that phrase, and most of it entirely undeserved. One thing you can do is try to inform the people around you about depression - you might try the fact sheets at www.nmha.org .

Good luck!

Hi. Thank you for your message & for the info. I am in US- Md (Eastern Shore). I've tried United Way, Catholic Charities etc, all up & down Eastern Shore-from Dover Del. to Salisbury Md. No luck. I'll try to call Suicide Hotline like you suggested. Thank you for taking the time to write. No doctor, no health insurance etc. Things are very hard but it's nice to hear from other people who understand. Thanks again. Patti

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it and the info. My husband is afraid, my parents, brothers, grandmother all believe in the "old fashioned" way of dealing w/depression, alcohol. I've done very good in that aspect because I have suffered from alcohol abuse for a long time. It may be because I don't go out of the house much at all, especially alone so I can't buy it or go to bars. But at least I'm not drinking my problems away. Take care & thanks again for writing. Patti
