Type of therapist?

Hi, I am thinking of seeking counseling for anger and depression issues. My insurance company breaks down the list this way:
Addictions Counselors
Clinical Social Workers
Licensed Professional Counselors
Clinical Psychologists
Psychiatrists
Marriage/Family Therapists
What group should I be looking in? I would guess Professional Counselor or Marriage/Family Therapist? Not sure what the difference is.
Thanks.

I think that the two you have chosen are proabably a good fit, but you can also look at the Clinical Social Worker.
My therapist is a marriage & family counselor (although he counsels individuals, too).
I myself saw a Clincal Social Worker who specialized in Depression.

Hi there!
I think that I can help, I am psychologist and know that usually it is most helpful when you know what the individual's specialty is, you may want to try a licensed SW, professional counselor, clinical psychologist or a marriage and family therapist, the only differences are in schooling, the first has a Master's or two years schooling, the sedond i don't know that much about, psychologists go to school for 4 years or more and MFt have 2 years. Usually a psychologist may charge more unless it is through insurancfe vbut ANY of these professionals can be hlepful to you, the most important thing is finding the best MATCH for you, figure out what kind of person and what gender you want to work with and then start from there, then think about whether or not their education amtetrs to you and the location is impt too, I hope that this helps!
