Get out of bed tips please :-(

I need some tips please on how to get out of bed in the mornings and into the shower.  This is my biggest struggle of my day because bed is the only place that I feel safe.  As ridiculus as it sounds, that is how I feel in the middle of my panic attacks.  Can someone PLEASE help?!  I am desperate.

Shelly, I am so sorry you are feeling this way. I sometimes have morning anxiety and depression too and it can be so hard to face getting up. You might try posting a sign by your bed that you can see when you wake up. It might sound silly but mine says "Good morning beautiful! I love you." and then it has instructions for my morning, like get out of bed, coffee, go for a walk, etc. I ritualize my morning with a cup of coffee and a walk around the neighborhood and spend the time naming everything I am grateful for from the previous day. Even if it's just something like "I am grateful for my bed for supporting me when I sleep." The combination of caffeine and a little exercise just gives me that boost I need because mornings are usually my hardest times. I hope this helps!

Hugs,
Michelle

Hello there Blueeyedblond23 :)

Yeah, getting out of bed and facing the day with a panic attack looming over your head can be a daunting task. Were conditioned through negative/positive reinforcements. So no wonder we have our "habits" when we feel depressed or we have a panic attack.

I used to supervise a telemarketing team (sorry!) and I had a great sales training tape that we listened to. The whole first half of the program was not about sales at all but about building your confidence and enthusiasm in general. The trainer said that when you wake up in the morning, say, "Fantastic!" I know it sounds silly, but I tried it anyway. Some mornings I could only manage a very sarcastic version, "Oh, fantastic..." But strangely enough, saying it out loud every morning did make a difference in my mood.

I do not have panic attacks (unless I am at the dentist), so I am not sure what to offer. Would it be helpful to focus on how good the shower will feel, and how refreshed you will feel after it?
