From my many years of battling depression, I know that some days doing the smallest thing can seem so overwhelming. I tend to procrastinate and put things off. Then the workload truly does become huge and the problem is even larger. I also know in my head that the best thing I can do is to tackle it a little at a time and to take pride in my small accomplishments. The pride I can take in my small accomplishments makes me a tiny bit less depressed and that over time that little bit of daily pride will eat away at my depression.
I am also one to lead by example. In all my years of working with teens, I've never asked them to do something I wouldn't do myself. So in order to make myself do my one tiny thing on a daily basis, I'm issuing a request to you. I'm asking you to hold me accountable for doing that one tiny thing. You can help hold me accountable by doing one tiny thing yourself and posting it on here. For instance, today I spent 15 minutes going through a pile of laundry in my room. Some needed to be hung up. Some needed to go in the laundry bin. Some is still there but at least 15 minutes worth is dealt with and I'm proud that I can see a very small dent in that chore. What have you done today that you can take pride in? Please share. If you haven't yet done anything, then take just a few minutes and do one tiny thing and report back.
Thanks so much for helping me. My friends don't understand my procrastination is depression related. I think they think I'm lazy. So they are not very encouraging over the little things. I appreciate the help I know you guys will provide.
