Thursday's accomplishment

So far today, I've been to work, been to my parents, puttered around in the bookstore, and went to the pharmacy.  When I got home yesterday, there was a message to call my doc.  It seems my bone scan showed the beginning of osteoporosis so I had to go pick up some calcium - just what I need more pills to add my day.  Oh and I put some more wood conditioner on the kitchen table.  I am a little proud of how nice it's beginning to look again.

I still have papers to grade and a class to teach.  I also need to call and schedule a dentist appt and an eye appt.  When I posted on Tues about being disappointed with my day, someone pointed out that I was showing up for life.  That's how I feel - just showing up.  When I do something that is out of the norm is when I feel I've lived and accomplished something - even if it's just a few minutes on straightening up the house.  That should be part of my norm but it's just not.

My life is getting so chaotic that I'm getting numb to it!  I really need to find a way to feel like I'm living it again.  That's how I felt when I worked with the teens at church.  I was enjoying things and felt like I was making a difference.  Now I'm not doing either.  I need to figure this out.

You might consider Viactiv or a store brand, good-tasting
calcium supplement. I never could remember to take the
boring calcium tablets, but I've made big improvements in
the bone density test since I started using the chewy
chocolate ones.

Taking a walk is one of the best things you can do.

I understand what you mean about not really "living." I think for me at least, being dysthymic means I need that something extra to really feel "alive." That's what's prompted me to do so much traveling and gets me into contact with so many new people all the time. Sometimes it's done more harm than good though, and I like the idea of just being able to be content when I'm not doing something out of the ordinary. Workin' on it!

It sounds like you're aware that you need something to make you feel more engaged and energetic, and that you really enjoyed your past volunteer work. So maybe finding some more volunteer work is a good idea. I'm a musician so I perform at retirement homes sometimes. Performing gives me a real buzz and at retirement homes the audience is very forgiving. I've also participated in stream clean-ups and other environmental projects.

Showing up for life is sometimes all we can do, and it may not seem like gettiing out of bed, going to work or school and doing a few errands is a big deal but it really can be. I took care of a few things I was putting off, like school applications and doing laundry, and I even got to the gym tonight, and feel a lot better.

Hugs,
Michelle
