Medication Change?

Hi.....I hope everyone here is have a sunny day. I'm not and I'm wondering how much of what I am feeling has to do with a change in my medication. I was taking 10mg of Lexapro and recently discover that Celexa or the generic Citalopram was much less expensive so I requested the change. I am into my second week and I have been dealing with irritability not to mention an IBS flare up for the last few days.

It's not unusual for me to experience this during the holiday season, in fact if I am to be honest it is normal. But what I am wondering is has anyone else experienced any of this after a medication change and if I just need to give the drug more time?

Thanks for your time.

Citolopram/Celexa can cause diahrrea, so if that's what you're dealing with it will go away in about a week or so.

I'm brand new here... but have had LOADS of medication "tweaking" going on for depression, anxiety, bipolar and chronic headaches/migraines, some of which have increased suicidal ideation, some have cause irritability, some have caused diarrhea, some constipation, oh, well, I could go on, I suppose, but I won't bore you with the rest... the point is, it is so difficult to tell. I would say give it at least a couple weeks, but keeping a close eye on it letting those close to you know what's going on. I make sure my mom knows how I'm feeling psychologically when I'm trying a new med and how they seem to be affecting me. I try to "hang tough" for a few weeks and then if the side effects are still too difficult to deal with I talk to the doctor to see if we need further readjustments.

I have a real tough time with the holidays too (without a real concrete reason as well, I might add... it will forever remain a mystery...), so I'd wait til we're past them and see how you're doing and go from there.

Best!

Stacey

I think it's normal to feel pressured during the holidays.

I haven't experienced irritability in a particular medication change, but I have had all kinds of side effects, like headaches on prozac (which went away after a while).
