Tired of Depression

Today is my birthday (58) and I wonder how I will make it through the day.  I have suffered with depression on and off since I was a teen and I'm just exhausted.  I've been treated with antidepressants and they seem to work in the beginning, but always stop.  I'm at that point again.  My new psychiatrist is planning to wean me off Effexor and has started me on Depakote, so I will be in the "trial and error" stage for awhile now.

This depression is just evil.  I had a wonderful "Big Chill" holiday by the sea with my husband and another couple.  We had a great time together.  When it ended (on the drive home), I could feel the sadness washing over me again.  It was full blown by the time we reached home.  I say "home", but I do not consider where I live "home".  We moved to California 5 years ago from Georgia.  I feel as though we are in another country and I am homesick a lot of the time.  We moved out here because my husband lost his job in Georgia and now it looks very unstable for him in California.  I've tried to find a job to help out and also to have something to do during the day.  I am so bored and with boredom comes the feeling of worthlessness - why am I even here?  I've done nothing with my life and I feel so hopeless that I ever will.  I'm married to a wonderful man and I feel as though he would have been better off marrying someone else.

My psychiatrist has referred me to several therapists, so I will make an effort to call them today.  It will at least give me somewhere to go if nothing else.  I just feel so alone.

I hope I did not bore everyone.  I just needed someone to vent to because I am truly having a difficult time today.  Finding this website was helpful.  At least I know I am not the only one suffering with this illness.

Hello Bea,

Seems like you have a lot going on here, besides your birthday:) Well just remember, it's always changes that are hard to make. And I think you are handling it very well.

I myself was you so many times... Gosh I look back and I realize I was miserable! Somehow over the 20 years I Grew (not the right word, but I will get to that later) out of it... at least the longer stays of each episode.

Now that I'm 44 and I have been diagnosed with Lupus (symptoms had nothing to do with

Bea, darlin'! Happy BEA-day!!! :-)

Okay listen up, are you taking fish oil which are EFA's & are you consuming any other healthy fats -- and no, vegetable oil, is NOTnotnot a healthy fat...hence a shelf life of years that allows it to go rancid.

Here's the deal with depression - i'm going to offer a tip as a holistic nutritionist that helps client to address energy & mood imbalance.

Fat actually sheaths every cell in your body, including your brain. When people get all caught up in this bogus media 'no fat' craze, or tend to eat the standard american diet, they are not getting enough of the health fats our body and brain needs for optimal metabolism, energy, health & mood.

So you can see a LOT of increase in mood imbalances over the last 10-20 years.

I had a client off her meds from her therapist in just 2 weeks for chronic fatigue and depression after a significant life event that overtook her simply balancing her nutrient intake & supporting her with whole foods properly, whole foods supplements & glandulars as a healthful alternative to meds.

Meds are toxic to your liver b/c it has to process the heavy metals and toxins in pharmaceuticals to clear them out of your body to keep you safe & ensure you pee them out basically, without being crass - but that is what happens. So taking meds drains your liver further from dealing with other things it needs to esp when you are stressed and down and you immune system is in a weakened state.

So here's the deal -- get on some quality EFA's, I recommend taking 2x 1,000 mg fish oils 3x.day with meals - go for a clean fish oil that is not farmed, try Nordic Naturals.

And start also by cutting out the foods that mess with your brain serotonin levels which disrupt mood, names the white devil: processed sugars & flours, aritificial sweeteners.

People perceive that they are emotionally addicted to foods, when they are not, their brain is physically addicted to them hormonally, they just don't know this. Once we clear them out of the body & replace them with the correct balance of nutrient dense whole foods, healthful balance in the body ensues!

Hugs, doll! Be well, Heather ~ xxx

I read some post, and the caracter Lucy of Charlie Brown said that "snap it out" to Charlie brown when he said he was depressed.

Try to figure out what is depressing you. You lost town which you miss, your friends, not good relationsships, lack of fulfillment. Even you have a good husband you´re also a person, so you have to find out wht makes you happy and go for it.
