Feeling more depressed....

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to reach out and see if anyone has had a similar experience. I was diagnosed with depression in April 09 and I have been taking anti depressants (wellbutrin xl 450 mg) since then. I have been doing fine with it in addition to therapy and I decided to start incorporating exercise into my daily routine as well. What is weird is that now that I exercise I feel more depressed! I know this is not usual but has anyone else had the same experience? I have tried to think of other factors in my life and I am more stressed than usual but I definitely felt worse than before I started.

I agree with Josie that you should tell your therapist about this.

Thanks so much for your response.

I have been doing some high impact aerobic classes. This is definitely a big change from my usual routine of doing...absolutely nothing. Since my therapist recommended exercise, I decided to incorporate a weight loss goal into it as well.

You know, I did not think too much about the possibility of something from therapy triggering this. For the past month or so my sessions have actually been quite positive, but of course I am the type of person also that reflects on my sessions afterwards and figures things out on my own. I will definitely speak to my therapist about this next time.

Thanks again.

Thanks Deb for the response.

I have been doing some high impact aerobic classes at my gym. I also tried bikram yoga out and realized that it definitely wasnt for me. I actually used to do water aerobics about two years ago and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately due to the really high price of the gym that offered it, I had to change and my current one doesnt have it. I didnt realize that perhaps the type of exercise I was doing may be impacting the way that I feel. I guess I just thought exercise=endorphins=less depression. I am happy to know that this is unusual too because now I will reflect on different parts of my daily routine that I may have overlooked.

Thanks again.
