We have a son named Jakob and just found out this baby will be a girl. Do you think the names are too similar? We always call our sone Jakob not Jake so if we decide to call her Jade for short that shouldn't be a problem. Also do you think it sounds good as Jadyn Amelia?

Thanks

I don't think Jakob & Jadyn are too similar at all, especially since you call your son by his full first name. Jadyn Amelia is very sweet; good choice!

They are too similar for my taste in sibling names but Jadyn Amelia is a beautiful combination. I ran into the same thing when naming my second - my son is Cullen and I kept leaning towards names like Kalyn for a girl. An early poster had a Kaden/Kaitlyn. I guess when you really like the sound of one name, you naturally like similar sounding ones.

We have neighbors with 5 y-o Jake and 1 y-o Jade. Those are their names not nn's. It has never been a problem and I've never heard critism or seen a raised eyebrow. In fact their mom gets many compliments. I'd definitely use the names!

IMO I do think that Jacob and Jadyn are too similar. I mostly think its because they both start out JA and have the same amount of syllables and letters. Even if you shorten them to Jake and Jade, then they are only different by one letter. I feel you will get very tongue tied. Best of luck!!!

Jakob & Jadyn are too close for my tastes. Jakob & Jadyn might be ok, but Jake & Jade are way to close - the kids will never know which one is being refered to. Even if you don't call Jakob Jake right now, he may decide to use that nn later in life (my bro Daniel was called Daniel until his teen years when he decided he liked Dan).

How about Cadyn (nn Cady) or Jaren/Jaryn?

Hello from a Jakob's Grandma,

I just wanted you to know that our family has DELIBERATELY chosen names to go together.

My daughters have both allowed me to help chose my Grandchildren's names. We have a Kyle and a Katelyn (who are now 7&5) then we had a Jakob and now a Jordan (2 and 4 mo.s)

IMO they just sounded better, more bound together as siblings/cousins. Our youngest DD's #2 is due 9/12 and we've joked that she needs to chose a name that begins with the letter "L" to keep the alphabet chain going.

Best of Luck to you, I think you've chosen a great set of names,

Kim

Have to tell you I don't like the name Jadyn. Do you think it would fit her at 40+ yrs?
