Honestly? My brain first says "Molly" and then wonders if the mother meant for it to be "Moll-lay-ah". I'd really hope for the "Molly" pronunciation!

I'd email back congratulating her.. saying something along the lines of Congratulations, what a lovely name! How do you say that? :) Just to be sure.

Sheesh.

Well, I guess I'd say Mal-lay or Mal-leigh although I wouldn't be confident about it. It doesn't seem to phonetically spell anything. Don't get me started on strange spellings, lol! I'd ask her when you congratulate her!

I would say Mal-LAY (emphasis on the last syllable).

I think it *should* be pronounced "mal-AY."

i've no clue. Why don't you ask her how to pronounce it? If I had to guess, I'd say

mal-ay (mal like sal, not shopping mall)

But then again, it could be a unique way to spell Molly. ??????

wow. that's a weird one. I hope she wasn't trying to be cute with Molly. It looks to me more like Ma-LAY.

that's a shame. this child will be correcting people about her name all her life.

Yep, I will ask her in an e-mail...that's a hard question to ask, though! I actually think the name LOOKS pretty, but I agree that it is setting her up for a lifetime of misspellings, etc...

My guess is Molly. Mallaigh is a town in both Canada & Scotland, which makes me think that it's not made up, but a Celtic spelling. Carrie BTW is your friend in the Twin Cities area?
