Help! I'm due any day......

Okay for this whole pregnancy my husband and I have been unable to agree on a girls name. We have four that we both like but I think it is more like two he really likes and two I really like! I'm worried that she won't have a name when she is born! Any ideas on what you have tried with your DH. And another question we both like the name Livia, which means "crowned one" But I keep thinking that it sounds like we just forgot to say O, and that it is to close to olivia?!?!?! Maybe I'm just losing it, anyway I would appreciate any advise!!!

Thanks, Julia 8/23

Well, I don't have any kids so I can't give you much DH advice. But I can tell you what other people have said on this board. Many people seem to take a few names into the hospital with them and then they say that the child will sort of pick the name. Apparently one of the names will look better for that particular baby.

As for Livia I feel like that O is missing too. I would either use Olivia or use a similar name that doesn't sound unfinished like Liviana or Liviann.

I think gemini's advice is good...take all four names with you to the hospital and decide to be unconcerned about having a name in advance. My own name was a last-minute decision by my mother after I was born and she saw me. For her whole pregnancy she planned to name me Carrie, but when I was born she said I just didn't look like a Carrie to her, so she named me Kristen. And I'm rather glad she did!

I also agree about Livia. I think it is very pretty, but you may spend a lifetime correcting people who hear "Olivia" instead.

Good Luck!

Livia is a very beautiful name and all you need to do is to look at her face and that will say it all. I like Livia just as well. People should break away from the establishment and follow their own drummer!

I agree it just sounds like you forgot the O. everyone will assume it's really Olivia and that you're calling her Livia for short.

From one Julia to another :), I think Livia is a lovely name in its own right (and actually prefer it to Olivia). What about Lydia - similar and I think it's gorgeous!

I happen to really love the name Olivia, and for that matter Livia. I think that, although some people might think the O is "missing" who cares...its very very pretty, and I think Liv is an adorable nickname...

Perhaps Julia there is a way to resolve your delemna. The very name Oliva means Olive Tree and as you said Livia means Crowned one or just plain old crown. Tell them as sweet and as firm as you can that her name is Livia and it doesn't mean that you forgot the O. you may be greatly surprised that some may catch on rather quick. What I am saying is don't jusge your eggs until the hen has laid them. Use the name that is dearest to your heart and patiently handle and problems in the future. Remember that we are all human. By the way Olivia is Oliva and Livia is Livia to me. There may be other examples that I can not remember right off hand. Take it easy for now and enjoy your precious gift when she is born.

Livia is a gorgeous name. and it doesn't sound like you for got the O. When we named our daughter Maeve (may-ve) most people assumed, and still do that it's short for Mavis, which it is not.

I have a very dear friend who's name is Livian and she gets lillian all the time.

Trust your gut you'll know who she is when she arrives.

God luck

Livia, Lydia, and Olivia were all on our list for DD #1... we settled on Liliana. Don't know if it is your style or not.
