Naming boy #3

We are having our third boy in 8 weeks. After much debate, we have chosen the name Maverick Lance. We have gotten mixed reviews from family and friends. I once taught a little boy named Maverick who was just adorable. Our other sons are Kyle and Cameron. We were not trying to stay with the "k" sound when we named them; we just liked the names. Both of those names have become very popular and that's one thing we are trying to avoid with this child. However, I don't want him to feel like his name is "too out there". I just wondered what others might think of the name Maverick Lance. Our last name is Evans. Any opinions or suggestions?

I have no suggestions because none are needed. Always that everyone wants to get in on the act and become a critic. Maverick Lance Evans is a very nice name and you should go with it. Don't worry what others are going to say. If you want to call him Blue Moon-on-the Horizon go ahead and do so. Personally they aren't on that table pushing him out as you are up there sweating are they? No! So dearie you relax and let the world spin by as it always does. Best of Luck to you and yours. By the way the names all sound smashing together.

It's a perfectly reasonable name. What I like too is that if Maverick becomes too much of a mouthful or something your child dislikes when he gets older he can just shorten it to Rick and have a nice nn too. Most people I know never deal with the mn of their kids once they pick them so Lance is both a fine name and something you won't have to work with anyway except for filling out school forms and the like.

Good luck and enjoy your little boy!

I like it. Sounds good together, with your other kids names and with your last name. Enjoy!

NNs could be Erick or Rick if your DS looks for something for mainstream later on.

But I think it's a great name without being too 'out there'. Congrats.

Hi...I feel bad saying this but its definately NMS. I would be too scared he would

get teased. What if you used Lance as the first name..not too common but not so out there.

Just something to think of.

Here's my 2 cents-

If you and DH *love* Maverick, then go for it. I agree with the others that Eric/Rick are potential nn's.

However, Maverick is pretty "out there" compared to Kyle and Cameron IMO.

I think you could come up with some pretty unusual names (visit the social security website) that don't paint the "mental picture" that the word "maverick" does.

JMO.

I hardly ever seek input from family & friends on choosing baby names because you'll never win......however, I do seek input from strangers! LOL!

My advice to you on this, is keep it with the "c" and "k".The reason being, that maybe later on in life, your boys might end up feeling you are playing the "favoritism game",with your youngest. Two reasons this might occur, is #1-you seemed to have ruled him into his own little direction ,seperating him from his older brothers.#2-he is the youngest. If you plan on having anymore children after this, i advise you to keep the pattern unless of course you have a girl, then you are free to explore, and hey the more unique, the better.

Some ideas-- Calvin,Kevin,Chad.......

I like both names, but I'd switch the order... to play it safe.

Lance Maverick Evans

(My mom's maiden name is Evans, by the way, and my firstborn is Evan.)

I think Maverick Lance is a great name. i dont think it's too out there at all. If you like it go for it, and dont listen to the comments from fam and friends, i made the mistake of discussing names with my family and it seems all they want to do is have a whinge and put their 2 cents worth in. so, i told them we are going to choose a name and keep it to ourselves,(except i ask for advice on this board) because i know once our boy is named they cant really complain anymore! it's done! the only thing is i just wish that like you i had a name i really like myself, i find boys so difficult!

Best of luck,

Jana :)

sorry, I'm not crazy for either one and really not together.

if you'd want to stick with C/K names - how about: Conner, Colin, Colton, Carson, Keegan. - or one that starts with a Q which is the same sound, Quinn, Quint, Quinton, Quentin.

good luck

Hey.......I once taught an adorable Maverick too! However, I do remember seeing his name on my roll and saying "uh-oh"......wondering if he was going to be a maverick. Seeing as his parents named him that, I figured they'd raise him to be a troublemaker. I was very pleasantly surprised, but you may wish to avoid that with your own dear son, and switch to Lance Maverick as a previous poster suggested (or not). By the way, I don't think Lance will become as popular as Cameron did, and I never see Kyle used, so maybe that's a regional popularity. But, I'm not a seer or anything, so who knows!

Have fun with the naming!
