Boy Name Axel, WDYT?

My husband loves the name Axel for a boy. It has a very good meaning (father of peace, divine source of life) but I'm not sold on it. If he wins me over on this name, the name would be Axel James. I have two boys named Jericho & Canaan. My personal favorite is Jonas Jeffrey. The middle names are taken from family members so I am limited to James, Jeffrey, Levi or Kade as middle names. What are your thoughts about the name Axel?

I only have images of Axel Rose (from Guns and Roses) or a wheel axle. It's not a very attractive name, IMO. I much prefer Jonas, but not with Jeffrey (don't like the Js together). I like Jonas Kade or Jonas Levi and think they both make a much better fit with your other boys names than Axel.

Its a family name in my family. 2 of my great grandpas names are Axel and Adolph.

I kinda of like it. Its unique. But it may not be a good idea to use it as a first name. Maybe a middle name? Jonas Axel? maybe?

It's a shame that it has such a nice meaning, and is a family name, b/c unfortunately, I grimaced when I heard the name in the title of your post--the only thing it brought to mind for me was a dirty, seedy rocker. I'm so sorry!! But since it is a family name, perhaps you can use it in the middle name spot instead?

I mean, I don't know how many times Guns 'N' Roses is going to try and make a comeback, so the connotation with the name may fade quicker than we know it, but just in case...I would probably advise against using it as a first name.

Best of luck to you!

With brothers Jericho and Canaan, Jonas definitely gets my vote. Axel doesn't seem to fit as well with the sibs names. And I just prefer the name Jonas over Axel anyway. I tend to like softer sounding names, so maybe that's why. Axel seems to have a harshness to it that doesn't appeal to me.

Axel just reminds me of a car. I think Jonas is a much better choice and goes better with your sons' names. I personally think Jonas Kade is very nice.

I really like the name Axel. I also like the spelling, rather than Axl like former rock star Axl Rose (which by the way, I really don't think that association would be much of a problem AT ALL in the current generation, as Axl Rose seems to be a star that has faded immensely already!).

I probably wouldn't use it myself, but that is just because it doesn't suit my naming style but I think that it suits yours VERY well, I love the way it fits with brothers Jericoh and Canaan.

I like Axel Kade or Axel Jeffrey best, of the MN options you've listed. Axel James is just too "boring" for me personally. I think the MN James is sort of blah especially with a "wow" type of name like your sons will all have!

Levi is a name I really like, but I just don't feel that Axel Levi flows well. Maybe you could use both, either Axel James Levi or Axel Levi James, if two MNs are a possibility (?) I think those sound nice.

Personally, I don't like it. It sounds too harsh.

Without looking at anyone else's posts, I think Axel goes quite well with Jericho & Canaan! It's offbeat, a bit jazzy and very masculine. I think your Hubby picked a winner there! Jonas is sweet but doesn't have the "jazz" to go with your other boys and he may regret that as he grows.

Out of the possibilities you listed, I love Axel Levi and think Axel James would be a good alternative.

I love Axel Kade I think it is very cool and unusual. I really don't like the name Jonas myself, I think it is too used now. Axel is very unique, I like that. Kade will also be the middle name for my baby if it is a boy. Have no clue about the first name but know for sure the middle!lol

like some other posts, i instantly thought of Guns n Roses, Axl Rose. is a cool name, but i think GnR(and a highly popular band of the 80s influence wont fade away)

how about Axton? is unique, cool, distinctive..yet similar to Axel, even similar to Ashton(and other "ton" "ston" "ten "tan" names) that are commonly liked now, would be great fit. and no visions of GnR with a little change.

Jericho, Canaan, Axton
