Reese for a girl...getting too popular?
| Mon, 10-25-2004 - 8:00pm |
I'm expecting my first child (a girl) in Feb. My husband loves the name Reese/Reece. I really like it too, but I'm wondering if it is getting too popular due to actress Reese Witherspoon. I don't want her to have a popular name. We've thought about Reese Preslee. What do you think? Thanks!

My main worry about naming a girl Reese in light of actress Reese Witherspoon's popularity (which does not seem to be waning) is that she would get constant comparisons to the actress. This might be fine if your DD is a petite and perky blonde debutante/sorority girl a la Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, but if she becomes something different (brunette, sporty, goth, what have you) she might hate the neverending mentions of Witherspoon. Just a thought. I knew a girl named Mariah who hated the very mention of Mariah Carey for that reason.
I wouldn't use it personally...but if I did, I would pair it with something a bit more traditional and feminine than Preslee because to me, 2 unisex names is just too much for one kid. JMHO though, to each their own!
PS Are you by chance an Oklahoma State alumna? I am ('98) Just wasn't sure, as your profile has not been completed (thought maybe you were reference to a college in Ohio, Oregon, etc! hehe)

Reese for a girl and Reece for a boy.
I havent heard to much of the name, only know 1. Hes 17 spells it Reece. I also like Rhys for a boy as well.
If you like Reese then go for it. It is a pretty name, and i dont think she will be compared to Reese Witherspoon, how many Children who were names Julia during the pretty woman phase are compared to her? I havent heard any.
Yes, absolutely, I think it's getting very popular. It comes up on this board a lot.
Well, best of luck to you!
here's a thought or two...
Reese Penelope .. is is unique, little trendy, yet classic, and feminine.
Reese Beverly
Reese Aileen

Reese Prestine
