We're not sure what we're having, but we're considering naming it after our parents. Here are our choices:

For a girl - Patricia Jacqueline Smith

For a boy - Jonathan Donald Smith

So what do you think? Do they sound ok, too old fashioned, too anything? I'd love to hear everyone's opinions. Thanks.

I love the name Jonathan, but with LN Smith, I would be worried about identity problems. It seems like in any given area there would be dozens of Jon D. Smith or John D. Smiths...Maybe you could give him a different and/or additional MN to help with that?

In any event, Jonathan is a great name.

I think Patricia Jacqueline is great although I personally love the name Jacqueline NN Jackie, and would switch the name to Jacqueline Patricia for that reason. I actually like the name Patricia too, and I like NN Trish, but for some reason I have always disliked NNs Patty and Tricia. So IMHO Patricia's great if you try and keep it "Patricia, not Patty, not Tricia". But of course that is just my personal preference!

Good luck!

I agree on the girls name, I'm not a huge fan of Patricia, so I would put Jacqueline first.

Johnathan isn't bad. Patricia does sound a bit old fashioned and I dont' much care for the nicknames patty etc. But Jacqueline isn't bad nickname jackie.

my name is Patricia and my dd is Jacalyn (uses nn of Calyn (kay lin) )...so I have mixed feelings on the name...it sounds good together...and while I have never been a huge fan of my name...it does have good nn's and it is an excellent one to use when needing to sound official or when you need to be taken more seriously...

I recommend using Trish, Tricia, Tia or Ricci as a nn...

The boys name is really NMS...but I do like Nathan as a nn for Jonathan...

I view Patricia, Jacqueline, and Jonathan as *classic" names as opposed to "old fashioned"...

they are great names!! tho as said, many Jon/John Smiths.. unless you go by Jonathan, with no official nn (that would be awesome!)(if you want to call him Jonnie amongst family, be wonderful.) giving a thought... howabout ** Joaquin ** (Whah-Keene) is a version of John/Jack.. (must confess this is one of my fave names, great sounding, strong, distinctive).

if going with * Jonathan * (and i do love the name Jonathan, too popular for my taste tho), to make distinctive, perhaps ** Jonathan Donovan Smith **

Joaquin Donald Smith

Jonathan Donovan Smith

Jonathan Donald Smith

the girl's name is wonderful too! both are. are you wanting something classic? or distintive to go with the classic? perhaps, Patricka, Patrice, Patrizia..i like this one.. or would you like a unique nn for Patricia.. how about Petra ... is a Greek name, meaning Rock, i love this name...and have known a girl named Petra (she said it as Pay-trah.. may also be said as Peh-trah/Pet-rah)(she is beautiful, loves her name, intelligent..a math wizz.. and funny, we cracked up in Denny's afterhours many times.) **Patricia nn Petra** that would be unique, cool, is pretty, and strong. there you have classic with distinctively new.

Patricia Jacqueline Smith nn Petra Smith (now, how many Petra Smith's would there be?)

..and if went by Jacqueline as fn, i wouldnt go with Jackie, too common, howabout Jaci .. that's a beautiful, unique, new/fresh spelling

HTH best of baby name whispers to you.
