DD #1 is Naomi Caroline

We like Bible names and classic, feminine names.

Dh likes Sophia because it means wisdom and he thinks its pretty. I like it a lot too, always have, even before it was so popular. Another consideration is that we are planning to homeschool, so it won't be an issue of our child being "Sophia M." in a class of 5 Sophias. Still, we would prefer to have a more unique (but not too unusual) name. DD #1 was so easy because we loved Naomi, it was a Bible name, nice meaning, unique but not strange, etc.

Here are things we're considering:

Mary Sophia (and call her by both)

Sophia plus a middle name (but just call her Sophia)

I also like these names:

Miriam

Felicity

Mercy

Geneva

Chalice

what do you think?

With big sis Naomi Caroline, I love Felicity the most! But I also like Mary Sophia, or Sophia. Very pretty. My only (small) reservation about Sophia is the possible NN Sophie (which I absolutely love) kind of clashing with Naomi. But Sophia with Naomi is perfect.

Miriam does make a nice companion name to Naomi, but Miriam is really not my style so it is hard to say. Maybe as a MN.

The other names on your list are NMSAA. Especially Chalice (no offense!)

Overall, my vote goes to Mary Sophia. I really think that sounds lovely with sister Naomi Caroline.

I love the idea of calling her by both names such as Mary Sophia. That is beautiful, classic, feminine, just lovely.

I would avoid Chalice.I knew a girl named that and the teasing in high school was awful.

I like Miriam a lot and think it goes great with Naomi! Also, if you truly love Sophia, I'd go with Mary Sophia and call her by the full name; that's very pretty, too.

Good luck making a decision!

I really like Naomi. Mary Sophia is a beautiful name and complements Naomi. I also like Miriam and Felicity.

What about Lydia, Ruth(ie), Esther, Abigail, Bethany, Hannah, Eve(ie), Eden, Sarah, Leah, Rachel, Martha or Talia? They are all wonderful biblical names.

Best of luck,

Dana

OK, I think we're definitely going to use Sophia either as the first name or as a double name with Mary Sophia. Now, if we do the double name (Mary Sophia), do we also give her a middle name. I have a double name, but the second name is legally my middle name and its always been confusing filling out paperwork and such because informally I just write both names all together, but then formally I have to use my middle name for the middle initial. So I get a lot of mail to just my first name even though I don't go by it.

Dh thinks three names is too much, but he really wants to use Sophia and he likes Mary Sophia, so I may be able to convince him to let me give her an actual middle name too. So what do you think? Just stick with Mary Sophia last name?

If you think a middle name, then what would you put with Mary Sophia? Our last name is 2 syllables, so we don't want something too long. I don't want to use Miriam in case we have another girl and I want to use it as a first name.

I love Mary Sophia. (Actually I'm a huge fan of the name Mary ~ it's my favorite EVER ~ so pretty much Mary Anything I love :) I do not think you should use Mary Sophia as the FN and another name as a MN. Way too confusing. You've got more experience than I do in this situation, of course, but it seems like the paperwork and mail stuff you mentioned would only be a minor inconvenience.

Mary Sophia LN, that's my vote.

Good Luck!! :o)

You could go with Miriam Sophia and call her Mary as a nickname.

I like Miriam a lot and think that it goes very well with Naomi. :-) That's what I would choose from your list.

Sophia seems very Italian next to Naomi, so I don't think they work as well as a pair.
