What are your opinions on the name Sutton? I am really beginning to like it as a girl's name. I like the fact the it is uncommon. I've actually only heard of one other person with this name and she is an actress on Broadway. I'm heavly considering this name, but I wanted to get some opinions first.

Is it too uncommon?

Thanks!

I actually do like some surname-sounding unisex names for girls (Campbell, Emerson, Parker) but Sutton is not one of them...not yet, anyway.

But this is the first time I have heard it, so maybe with some getting used to (?) Who knows. When I first heard Campbell for a girl I hated it and now I like it a lot...but when I first heard Sawyer for a girl I hated it, and I still do!

Please do not name your daughter Sutton--it is a surname, not a first name. I am a huge advocate for classic names for both boys and girls. I know that you want to be unique but I am confident you can find a classic name that is not too common nor too unusual. I find that parents these days are trying way to hard to find names that sound "upscale" when if you look at the British Aristocracy, the only names that are truly upperclass are names that have pedigrees of hundreds of years. Good luck!

I think it's a wonderful name. We named our daughter Sawyer and it just fits her perfectly, she is a beautiful, bubbly little girl. So many people feel like you need to name your daughter a common girls name. Please do not be swayed by them. I do not regret naming my daughter Sawyer, it is unique and no one ever forgets her name.

I went to a baby shower last weekend and met women named Sawyer and Graeme, both of which sound like surnames or male names, but they fit these cool, successful women. Sutton fits in that category to me. And it is unlikely she will have 2 or 3 others in her class in school.

I think it's a great name & I actually know someone named Sutton!! Also, there is a very very nice store called Sutton Gourmet and it's from a very successful woman named..yes, Sutton.

I'm going through the same name issues.....want something unique but not too weird and risky, the thing is, if you like it and you name her Sutton, that is ALL she will ever look like to you & a few years down the road you'll think I can't believe I was gonna name her anything else. GL!!

Sutton, Mutton, Glutton, Button....

Nicknames could be a nightmare, but it is a cute name otherwise!
