Family names and lastname, the named given from father to son.

I have seen may that use them as fristname, but why?

Why do you want to have your daughter named son of Kenna, yes Mckenna/ Mackenna means that.

I talk to a Scott and some of the MAc/ Mc names are proteced by law are not allowed to use by some with out bloodline to the family.

Her is outher names the means son of or from.

Ben= son a normal arbic lastname , for ex Ben jedin , Ben Hassan.

O´= from or son of irish family, for ex. O´hara, O´connel.

son= most english and swedish means son of , for ex Andersson ( son of anders) Johnsson.

Sen= danish word for son , for ex. Neilsen , Andersen.

Mac= Scottis word for son of, for ex MacKenzie McKylie.

Lainen= the end word for son in finnish lastnames, for ex. kulialainen´, Mähinelainen

because son in a name is the equivalent of man in legal terminology..it doesn't donate a specific sex..but instead means *descendant of* not male descendant...just as man means *human* legally, not male...

a daughter has as much right to be named for her father, etc as a son does.

and while ben may mean son of (again really means descendant of) in anglo saxon and european culture it is a shortened form of Benjamin or Rueben, etc...

well, arent most names origionally last names?

and then, many names are derived from the ancestors area origin. from my last name, i have a good indication who my ancesters were, did by trade/work.. their names says what they were(and same says about my mother's maiden name, says who my ancestors were by meaning of their name). yet, my last name, part of it, is a first name, in more than one language and culture(my name ends with "son")..and then the first part my name change the letter, and is even more cultures and languages first name.

then also it has been, for centuries, an honor to name a child for the mother's maiden last name. or the father's mother's maiden last name. this has been especially been done if the mother's family had only girls, or the brother had been deceased early. this has been done in many cultures.

considering biblically, the begats go on and on and on and on "son of abram..son of isaac... son of david" and so on and so on seems to me is a great honor, "son of".. has been recorded from Genesis.

Ohh, now I understand, In sweden and most of neigbour countrys, the lastnam/ familyname like Anderson, Bergen and Nilesen never are use at firstname.

If i marry my wouldN't able use my maidenname as a child firstname, it woulden't done that way.

You can't be named Trygg or Bergen or Gröön as first name, it would not bee allowed by the goverment.

ANd yes we have lastname that are also first names but they are really uncommon.

Thanks for helping me understand your use of lastname/ family as firstnames.

Thanks
