Having 2nd thoughts about Vanessa...

My dh and I are having second thoughts about Vanessa. We may still use the name, but we are still unsure. So, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for girl names. My dh and I both like names that are uncommon but not weird or "out there". It would be great if our dd met only one or two people with the same name in her entire lifetime. Those are the kinds of names we like.

Any ideas? Our last name is Rask. Middle name ideas would be appreciated too (not for Vanessa, but for any first names you suggest). Thank you so much!

Since this is only our first child, you may suggest any boy names as well. :)

p.s. initially I was not fond of the name Vanessa ~ can't stand the Cosby Show reference ~ but I have just remembered a perfectly lovely girl I knew in HS with the name. Definitely a great association for me. just wanted to throw out my thoughts on your original name choice

A couple more ideas if you like the sound of Vanessa... how about Teresa and call her Tess/Tessa? Or just name her Tess/Tessa?

I like Vanessa. It's been around a while, I have known Vanessa's my own age (late 40s). but it is certainly not a "grandma" "old-sounding" name at all. It's very lyrical, feminine, which is nice.

others in the thread that you seem to want, a known familiar name rather than "out there" but just not used a lot:

Angela, Belinda, Carissa, Delaney, Desiree, Dominque, Erica, Gisele, Hilary, Heidi, Jocelyn, Johanna, Karissa, Larisa or Larissa, Liyonnna, Marissa, Mallory, Natasha, Rhiannon, Sienna, Samara.

good luck

here is a lovely name, with good meaning. and i assure you, she would only meet maybe 2 others with her exact name, tho she may run into those with similar names.

Regina.. is my MN, and my cousin's name is Regina Ann, and we've known 1 other, Regina R-LN, in grade school, her MN Ann. we all love the meaning of our name, Regina. they both NN Gina by family & close friends, known as Regina in life/professionally.

Regina, Latin origin, means: Queen, Royal.

Ann, Hebrew/Greek origin, means: Grace and mercy.

(Gracious Queen)

is rare but on occassion even find things with Regina name on them (how little girls like those things) even with as just my MN, loved the meaning and finding a rare name-item. my cousin the same way. (was name our grandmother really liked, wanted to use, but didnt, apparently our mom's did tho)
