I have a son Parker. My husband wants to name this baby boy Porter. I didn't really want to keep the P theme but I am not against it, however are these two names too similar?
I have a very common last name so I need something a little different for the first name.
Thanks,
Sarah

I think Parker and Porter are very close, with both starting with P and both ending in 'er. both are also formerly surnames that turned into first names, although Parker as a first name is much more mainstream now than Porter
if it's keeping the same letter he wants how about Preston - all different sounds after the P. as normal as it seems, you seriously don't hear it very much
then there's Payton, which is a great name, but it's gone unisex. I think it still leans a little more toward the boys, but girls are using it
good luck
Though I'm quite fond of both names, I find them entirely too similar. Each has such unique strength... I wouldn't take away from that by "matching" them.
Suggestions-
If dh is stuck on carrying on the P-, there are some others that are still unique that don't sound so similar-
Parker & Pierce
Parker & Pierson
Parker & Payne
Parker & Pate
Parker & Phagan
Parker & Perry
Parker & Preston
Parker & Phoenix
Or if you found the right name, you might could steer him toward a different letter-
Here are my fave "Parker-type" names-
Turner, Channing, Calder, Shaw, Beckett, Lander, Granger, Graham, Lawson, Larson, Alden, Afton, Hartley, Rainer, Ramsey, Burke, Brogan, Sadler, Langston, Ames
Others-
Owen, Carson, Hagan, Dawson, Dalton, Laken, Lansing, Baldwin, Stetson, Langdon, Landon, Bryson, Bridger, River, Findlay, Nixon, Gibson, Grayson, Gentry, Boden, Hadden
Let us know what you decide! Ginger
Thank you so much! You have all given me some great ideas! I agree and I guess last night I was just tired and giving in - back to the drawing board!

Yikes. Parker and Porter are waaay too similar, IMO. Then again, I don't really like the name Porter AT ALL.
