Question about the name Ella
| Fri, 04-22-2005 - 7:57pm |
Hi,
DH and I had narrowed our girl name list down to about three or four, and now suddenly he likes the name Ella. I think it's fine, but would prefer it as a nickname to a longer name.
I'm not fond of Elanor, so the two I came up with are:
Daniella
Gabriella
but DH doesn't like either of those.
What are some other names that could be used with a nickname of Ella?
Thanks,
Lisa (who is convinced it's our third boy anyway)

You can start with an El sound, like
Elizabeth
Elise
Eloise
Eliza
Or end in the ella sound like
Isabella
Annabella
Stella
Arabella
Maybe Elena? (though personally, I wouldn't shorten it to Ella). You could get away with Elizabeth too. Some other ideas:
Annabella
Isabella
Ariella
Mariella
Carmella
Marcella
Good luck!!!
Hi there, Lisa. I agree that Ella is better as a nn. Ella on it's own is really common just to let you know. It is very pretty though. Here are a few suggestions:
Ariella
Abriella
Arabella
Annabella
Briella
Isabella
Joella (this seems a bit dated though, imo)
Miriella
Mirabella
Mariella
Rosabella
Rosella
See anything you like?
Some E names:
Eliza
Elizabeth
Ellana
Elaina/Elaine
Elena
Or end in the "ella" (but not Gabriella or Daniella)
Belle / Bella
Annabella
Arabella
Isabella
Doniella
Marcella
also...
Belinda (nn Bella/ Ella)
Arielle
Noelle
Michelle
Joelle
My favorite just using Ella:
Ella Catherine
HTH Keep us posted!
Donna
mom to Alexandra, Samantha & Gabriella
how about Briella?
I personally like just Brielle better, but Briella is pretty too. Danielle is nice, but kinda '80s. lots of my those around my daughter's age (23). I hate Gabrielle, always have. two reasons I think, one is the nickname Gabby is just awful and also Gabrielle for a girl and Gabriel for a boy are just too close.
other possibility could be Gisela (soft G). again, I prefer Gisele, but Gisela is a possibility. biggest problem there would be people wanting to say it with a hard G, like Gazelle.
good luck
Lisa
