the name Tara? (Tar with a long a, like in Star)

I met a girl named Tara-Lynne the other day and thought it was pretty. What do you think?

Thanks :)

i like it! for some reason though when i see it spelt Tara i think of Tear-a. When i see it Tarah i see it tar-ah (like star). must be b/c i have friends with both pronuciations and that is how they spelt it.

I think it's pretty. The only problem you might have is people pronouncing it TAIR-uh instead of TAR-uh.

I think it is very pretty! My only concern is that you will forever be saying, "no, it's Tar-uh, not Tear-uh" Maybe finding a different spelling? Tarah-Lynne? Maybe that will help them get away from the traditional Tara spelling with the pronounciation. I hope you don't get discouraged with the name, it is really beautiful and feminine. Good luck!

Just a note... the a in star is a short a, not long (to clear up any confusion). Anyway, I prefer the "tair-uh" pronunciation, but think "tahr-uh" is nice, too. One of my closest friends in junior high and high school was a Tara Lynn (pronounced tair-uh).

I like Tara pronounced that way-funny because I am not at all a fan of Tara pronounced the usual way. I knew a girl in college with that name. She was half white, half Indian (Asian). I believe Tara is the name of a Hindi god(dess?). I think a lot of people would pronounce it the more common way...maybe spelling it differently (Tahra?) would help.
