names too similar?

I really need some input! We currently have a 2 year old son named Dylan. WE are due with a girl in October. We both really love the name Delany, but I think it is just too close to Dylan. DH disagrees and thinks it shouldn't matter, they are 2 separete people and won't spend all that much time as a "pair". I worry about it being too sing-songy (Dylan - Delaney - imagining calling them inside for dinner!)and not seeming orignal. Our other options on the table are

Riley
Morgan
Taylor
Amira

No mn's yet - it will depend on the first!

TIA!
Lori

They are too similar for me. But I do know families that have 'close' names like Taylor and Tyler, Evan and Ian, so it's not too 'out there'.

Of your other choices, I like Morgan.

Other ideas to go with Dylan:

Kendall
Addison
Makenna
Jillian
Jenna
Aubrey

would you ever call her by a nn? like laney? if you yell dylan and laney for supper they don't sound that much alike? they are pretty close, but imo, if you both love the names i don't see an issue. they aren't torturously similar!

yeah, they're pretty close. the long A in Delaney separates them somewhat and there's not the sound of dill like the dill pickle in Delaney like there is in Dylan.

I have mixed feelings about whether I'd go with it or not. I love the name Delaney.

good luck

Delaney is by far my favorite of your girl names. Do you plan on calling her Laney? That is not close to Dylan at all and I think those would make nice sibling names. Good luck!

well, its a cute name but kinda too close for comfort I think. Do you like Delaina? Its a bit different. Or you could just go with the fn Lainey. Also, If you want to move it to the mn slot I think Morgan Delaney is very pretty. Good Luck.

Nice name, but I agree with your instinct, that they're too cutesy, matchy-matchy. If you had a child between the two it probably wouldn't matter but right now it does.

I'm not loving Morgan. It's a little gender-neutral as it is, and coming after Dylan even moreso. Plus it's so unlike Delaney.

I LOVE Delaney, they are similar but also cute together. I think someone else might have asked, but are you thinking of nn's or not? If you are planning on having more kids think about his or her names too,it is not a big deal, but if you did Dylan and Delaney you might have to keep up the D's, just a thought!

Of the other names, I like Morgan best! I think it goes very well with Dylan and I think besides Amira it is the most girly. Riley and Taylor are more of girls name now, but there is still a lot of cloud. Just the other day one of my friends mistaked Riley for a little boy until she saw her.

Hope I helped! :)

I love the name Delaney, but feel like most of the others that it is just too close. But then I have never liked then trend of nameing all the kids with the beginning letter, like Luke, Linda, Lane, Lesley, Danny, Debby, Duke, Diane, Martin, Molly, Mandy, Mike etc. I love the name Riley. I also like the name Morgan Delaney. Think that is really pretty.

But just remember, she is going to be your precious bundle so pick the name that YOU really do like.l
