Help with First Baby's Name

My husband and I are really struggling with a name for our first baby. We are mostly looking at traditional names. Our last name is a very common first name, so names like Cooper or Conner would not work. People will always mix up the first and last name! It's happened to my DH his whole life. Also, I don't want anything too popular, since I grew up as Jennifer in the 70's and 80's. We haven't found out the gender yet, but will in a couple weeks. Any help is appreciated!

What about Emmaline or Annalise for girls? I really love both of those names and they have great nn's- Emma/Emmy and Anna/Annie/Liesel. I also like Catherine (Cate) and Abigail (Abby). My grandmother's mn is Adeline, which I love as well.
As for boys, Sam is my very favourite. William and Thomas are really growing on me.

COMBOS:
#1) Emmaline Adeline
#2) Annalise Nicole
#3) Catherine Grace

#1) Samuel James
#2) William Alexander
#3) Thomas Gage

We both like the name Samantha for a girl. OUr only hesitation is that it is always in the top 20 for most popular names. I would hate for our Samantha to be one of 5 in her class!

As a mom of two older kids 17yrs and 8yrs I say go with simple elegant names. Nothing trendy and please stay away from all those trendy ways of spelling names. I remember when I use to own a children's party business I could not believe how many different ways you could spell Britney for example. After that I always knew I wanted names that were easy to pronounce and easy to spell otherwise the child will be forever correcting the person trying to pronounce their name. Parents might like trendy names and think the spelling is cute, but the poor child is forever stuck with it. My 17yr old daughter's name is Lauren. We picked that just before it got trendy in the late 80s. My 8yr old son is Samuel, but we call him Sam. It's a nice strong name and no chance of mispronouncing either of my kids names.

Good luck.

Word of advice: If you don't want anything too popular, then please do your kid a favor if it's a girl, and don't name her Amanda. I love my name, but I know WAY too many women and little girls named the same thing.
