name your daughter after yourself?

My very best friend is pregnant with her third child, not due until May. She has 2 boys, ages 8 (Peirce) and 3 (Kyle). Although it is still too early to know the sex, she is thinking about if its a girl, on naming it after herself. (Not sure how DH feels about that though.)
She is named after her Grandmother. Her name is Alida (Ah-leeda), a name I like since we have been best friends since we have been 5 years old.
What do you think? I know its "okay" for the sons to be named after the dad, but rarely have I heard this the other way around. Just wondering how many of us out there would consider doing this??

I think it's great as long as it's not taken to the extreme. I heard of a family whose son was a James jr and the daughter was Mary jr. That's TOO much!
My aunt has the same mn as my grandmother. My neices have the same mn as grandmother (Anne) and mother (Danielle)
My newphew has a veration on his mother's name (Courtland for Courtney) which I don't really like. I just don't think it's good for a son to be named for a mother. But, that's just me. Their two oldest sons have their father's name. Braxton Kendal (my brother's mn) Bryson Derek (my brother's fn) so I guess they had to come up with something.
If your friend uses the name as a first name and it's her first name; there could be alot of confusion growing up but not anymore than a father and son.
So, I think, go for it.

I plan to use my first name as a middle name if my baby is a girl. With my son, I used my maiden name as his middle name, but the girl name we have picked out is kind of androgenous, so I thought it might be too much to then slap her with my maiden name as her middle. My first name is feminine, so she'll still have me in there somewhere. I've been stressing about using my name as her middle, I feel silly now--I mean, why not??
Thanks for bringing this topic up.
I always thought it was nice that she was named after her grandmother! When she brought the topic up, I was kind of shocked, but thought about it and could see it as a good idea. I still don't like the idea of the confusion later on, but that is because I grew up with (at one time) 4 generations of Norms in my family (Dad, brother, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather). I know the confusion of having to say "Which one?" every time the phone rang.
We are pregnant with our third boy, first son has DH first name as mn and second son has DH mn as his mn. So before we knew the sex of this baby (another boy) we had been throwing around girl names..........mn was always a tough one. DH had always suggested using my middle name or first name. I said I couldn't do that and he could not see why not! Now that I think about it, WHY NOT!?? We name sons after fathers all the time and its expected, but not the girls? Weird how this hasn't caught on as a trend!

I don't think there is anything WRONG with a daughter being named after her mother. If a son can be named after his father, then a daughter can be named after her mother. Some people may consider it odd, since it is not the norm. But, there is definitely nothing wrong with doing so.
Rory on Gilmore Girls is named after her mother, Lorelai! ... and they just call the daughter "Rory" as a nickname. :-)
